10 ways Arashi take care of their own.

Title: 10 ways Arashi take care of their own.
Author: moonbyrd
Rating: G
Pairing: Member-ai!
Disclaimer: If I wish on enough shooting stars, I might marry one in another life.
Notes: I keep forgetting about fic. >< Someday I'll go through and update the backlog.

1. Jun responds well to pampering.

Putting down one of the scripts he’d been trying to study, Jun sighed and rubbed at his eyes. He’d been up all through the night, trying to make a decision on which role to accept and he’d realized that he needed to get a new prescription for his glasses. Unfortunately, what with movie promotions and filming Arashi shows and rehearsing and the freaking tour, it didn’t look like he’d have time to sleep in the next few months, let alone spend an hour with his optometrist. He’d just have to live with the headaches, and the sleeplessness, until next winter. What a lovely thought.

Ohno, drifting by, reached out a hand and gently massaged Jun’s scalp, moving in slow circles toward’s Jun’s face. “Why don’t you try to grab a little nap?” His voice was soft, almost hypnotic, as he smoothed Jun’s forehead. “You’ve nowhere to be until noon, MatsuJun. Why don’t you just stretch out on the sofa here?” Looking across the room, Ohno caught Sho’s gaze and inclined his head toward Jun. Sho, whose comment about Jun’s obvious exhaustion and apparent headache had spurred Ohno to wander over to the couch, flashed a quick smile.

“Can’t, Leader,” Jun mumbled in protest. “Have...too much...’pearances. Things. Scripts...read.” He let out another, smaller, sigh as Ohno’s other hand joined in the massage.

Sho had crossed the room and crouched by Jun’s feet. “Let me help you with that, Oh-chan,” he said, quietly. Then, “MatsuJun, why not take just a few minutes’ break.” Gently he lifted one of Jun’s legs and began massaging the calf with one hand, chasing out the tension of the morning’s dance practice.

Jun grunted but did not open his eyes, submitting to their efforts. Ohno smiled at Sho again and began to hum, soft and low. The two men waited as Jun’s breathing evened out and deepened. Then, Sho carefully swung Jun’s legs up as Ohno subtly pulled on Jun’s shoulders, effectively turning the younger man sideways and settling him on the long sofa.

When they were sure he was settled, relaxed and deeply asleep, Ohno and Sho quietly moved away.

2. Sho is easy to manipulate.

Sho glared at his hand. Of all the stupid ways to get hurt! And now he’d thrown off some of the choreography, because of course he couldn’t do all of the stunts with his useless hand, and the other members had laughed it off and said they’d cover for him, but Ohno had the new drama to think about, and MatsuJun hadn’t been eating enough lately, and Aiba-chan had been rubbing absently at his chest ever since having that allergy attack the other day, and Nino--

A hand smacked Sho’s shoulder. “Stop it,” came a firm tenor, “Stop it right now.”

The glare moved from his stupid thumb to his stupid bandmate. “I wasn’t doing anything,” Sho gritted out.

Nino raised a haughty eyebrow. “You were fretting. Cut it out before I give you something to really worry about. Like what I’m going to do to Oh-chan during the next performance.”

“Oh god,” Sho said involuntarily, eyes wide. “Please don’t get us fired.”

Nino let out a sinister chuckle. He smiled down at Sho, showing all of his teeth. “For every time you think about how useless you are, or if Jun-chan hasn’t been sleeping, or if Aiba needs a glass of water, or if it’s your fault that fish can’t breathe air, I will step up behind Oh-chan and tug up his shirt and run my hands--“

“OH MY GOD STOP,” Sho cried, trying to erase the mental image. “IF YOU GET US FIRED, NINOMIYA, I SWEAR I WILL...I WILL...AUGH!”

“Just wanted to let you know,” Nino sauntered away, hands in his pockets, smirk firmly planted on his face. Sho might be a worrywort, but it was easy enough to get him to stop if you knew the right techniques.

The little brat. He was going down. In flames. In burning, eternal agony. How dare he!!

“Good afternoon Oh-chan, Chinen,” Nino said pleasantly. Ohno smiled that soft, unconcerned smile of his, eyes locked on Nino’s. From Ohno’s lap, Chinen Yuuri flashed a dazzling grin.

“Hello, Ninomiya-senpai!”

From. Oh-chan’s. Lap.

“Chinen,” Nino smiled back, “MatsuJun was looking for someone to give him an honest opinion about some of the costume choices for our tour. He could probably also use some help working out the details of the juniors’ positions for backdancing.” MatsuJun also hadn’t slept in three days and was on his ninth cup of triple-brewed coffee.

“Oh, okay!” Chinen chirped. “Ohno-senpai, I’m going to go help Matsumoto-senpai for a little while. Will you tell me more about fishing tomorrow?”

Ohno nodded absently, mind occupied by studying the design on Nino’s shirt, a tangle of multicolored lines.

“Okay,” Chinen said. “Goodbye Ohno-senpai, Ninomiya-senpai!” He hopped out of Ohno’s lap and trotted down the hall, oblivious to the victorious snarl Nino was directing at his back.

4. Aiba is still an idiot.

If this continued, Jun was going to tie Aiba to a chair and shove antihistamines down his throat. He watched with narrowed eyes as Aiba stifled yet another cough. He was also going to strangle whomever was in charge of cleaning backstage at this particular dome.

“Aiba-chan,” he said finally, as Aiba tried to unobtrusively stuff bits of tissue up his nose, “it works better if you actually take your allergy medication.”

Aiba froze, a piece of torn tissue hanging from his fingers. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Jun-chan,” he squeaked, and sneezed.

“Oh, for the love of...here.” Jun rummaged in his bag and pulled out a box of his own non-drowsy allergy pills, which he thrust at his bandmate. “Take two of these with a glass of water and go sit out in the lobby until I come to get you.”

Aiba knew better than to argue with Jun when the other man was wearing that particular expression, and doubly so when Jun grabbed his elbow in a vice-like grip and steered Aiba out the door and down the hallway.

Jun halted by a janitor’s closet and released Aiba’s arm but pointed firmly down the hallway. “Sit there and don’t move. I’ll be back to get you in half an hour.” Aiba nodded, biting his lip, and wandered off. Jun huffed a frustrated sigh, rolled up the sleeves of his Armani shirt, and yanked on the closet door.

Half an hour later, the dressing room smelled strongly of disinfectant and furniture polish, but there wasn’t a speck of dust to be found.

5. Not so secret, Sho.

When he finally got his hands on the control, Aiba hurriedly pressed in the number of his selection. Two more songs!

One more!

“Go, Sho-chan, go!” Aiba crowed as the music started. “It’s in English! Do it!” The other three laughed and cheered, goading Sho as well. Aiba didn’t know who had requisitioned the songs for this particular karaoke company, but he could have kissed them.

That Sho’s favorite song by his favorite American artist was listed was nothing short of miraculous. That Aiba knew about Sho’s deeply-held secret was even more so. But really, Sho shouldn’t have left his mp3 player out where just anyone could pick it up and see which songs had the most plays.

As Sho sang and shouted along with the song, Aiba grinned to himself. Sho might not want to tell anyone that his favorite musician was both American and not a rapper, but Aiba knew what was good for him.

6. Who needs self-confidence when they're the leader of Arashi?

Ohno furrowed his brow and glared at himself in the mirror, then relaxed. He bit his lip, blinked, and smiled as brightly as he could. He scowled. He grinned. He thought a moment, then tried again. Jun, entering the rehearsal room, raised an eyebrow.

“What are you doing, Captain?” Jun set the box of freshly-baked muffins on the floor just to the side of the door and crossed the room to stand by Ohno. An arm reached out and settled around Ohno’s shoulders almost of its own free will.

Ohno sighed and ran a hand through his darkened hair. “Just...practicing, I guess.”

Jun blinked. “Practicing what?”

The shorter man quirked a rueful smile and met Jun’s eyes in the mirror. “I guess...I just don’t want to get stuck in a dark mood around you guys,” he confessed, unable to keep secrets from Jun’s warm expression. “This drama with Ikuta-san...I’m kind of worried about it. I’m not used to being the bad guy.”

A small smile bloomed across Jun’s face and he forced Ohno’s head to turn to face him directly. “Leader,” he said, “no matter what kind of act you have to put on for this drama, you will always be our Oh-chan. You can scowl and frown and glare as much as you want while you’re at work filming, but just like with your stage plays, we’ll always be here to make sure you can relax and laugh and smile.”

7. Brainstorming for Nino is fun!

Nino picked through his bento and kicked at a pebble. Beside him, Aiba slurped noisily at his ramen. “Stupid,” Nino grumbled to himself, and kicked at the pebble again.

“What’s stupid?” Aiba’s chopsticks clacked together and he slurped again.

“World stupid,” Nino frowned. “Toma stupid. Johnny stupid.”

Aiba stopped eating and stared at his friend. “Nino,” he said, “...are you going to eat that?”

Nino sighed and handed his lunchbox to Aiba. “This summer is going to suck,” he announced. “Oh-chan’s going to be even busier than usual and stupid Ikuta Toma will get to see him everyday and stupid Johnny should have told the stupid drama director to put some other stupid actor in the stupid devil show.”

Aiba munched on Nino’s lunch and stared up at the clouds. “What would happen,” he mused aloud, “if someone put dry ice in the toilet of an idol’s bathroom?”

It was Nino’s turn to stare.

“And what would happen,” Aiba continued blithely, “if you squirted one guy with a water pistol every time he spoke to another? Would he stop doing it, like a dog?”

Nino started to smile.

“Ever wonder what it’s like to sneak onto a drama set while they’re filming?”

Nino threw his arms around Aiba and kissed him soundly on the cheek. “Aiba-chan,” he cackled, “I love you so, so much.”

8. Jun is weak in the face of tag-teaming.

Being the perfectionist he was, Jun continued working on his solo long after the trainers and voice coaches had gone home for the day. He sat at the table in Arashi’s dressing room, singing under his breath, glancing over the diagrams for his choreography again.

The sheets of paper were abruptly hidden under a styrofoam box.

Jun looked up, frowning. “I’m working here, Sakurai.”

Sho glared back at him. “You can’t work if I knock you unconscious and hook you up to a nutrient drip, Matsumoto.”

From behind Sho, Nino’s voice announced, “And if you waste that food I bought you, I’ll tell Oh-chan and Aiba-chan that you’ve decided to quit Arashi to act full-time.”

Jun paled. “You wouldn’t.”

Nino’s head popped up over Sho’s shoulder. “Try me, Junbug.” He bared his teeth.

The very thought of Aiba and Ohno, eyes swimming with tears and demanding to know why Jun didn’t love them anymore, weren’t they still his friends, what did they do wrong, how could they make it up to him, won’t you come back to us, Jun-chan, pleeeeeeeease, made Jun recoil.

“I spent good money on that dinner,” Nino growled. “You’re going to eat it, and you’re going to like it, and then you’re going to put those papers the hell away and go home and go to bed.”

Jun straightened his back, determined to not quail under Nino’s fierce gaze. “I have too much to do, Ninomiya. It’s for the good of the band.” There, even Nino couldn’t argue with that!

Sho’s frown abruptly turned into a smile. A slightly frightening smile. Jun edged back in his chair, unaware that he was doing so. “MatsuJun,” Sho clapped a strong hand around the back of Jun’s neck, “You’re coming home with me tonight. Nino is too. And if you don’t try too hard to escape, I’ll get you some coffee tomorrow morning. If you struggle,” the smile sharpened, “I will be forced to physically restrain you, and Nino will be forced to pack that dinner into your mouth, and I will be forced to tie you up and drug you to the gills so that you’ll sleep tonight. But neither of us will feel bad about it.”

“Just think about it, Jun-chan,” Nino was smiling too. “You, completely at our mercy, drugged out of your mind and asleep. I have my digital camera with me today. And I know where Oh-chan keeps his stash of permanent markers here.”

“Oh god,” Jun whimpered, and reached for the chopsticks.

9. Still doubting, Aiba-chan?

He hated the inhaler. Hated it. Hated the allergies that made him need it. Hated the way, when he didn’t use it, he sometimes couldn’t keep up with the others. Hated the weird way it made his lungs feel after using it. Hated the way that feeling reminded him of the time his lung collapsed. Hated the fear of a recurrence that he couldn’t quite shake, even though he knew it was irrational, even though he knew he was fine. Hated the way it made him worry, constantly, about his career. Hated the way it made him wonder, however briefly, if he could really continue being in Arashi with all of his limitations and inabilities and doubts and illnesses. Hated the way he could imagine Arashi continuing just as well without him.

“Aiba,” Ohno said in that airy way of his, “I need to get some new jeans. Will you come shopping with me, tomorrow?”

“Aiba,” Ohno called from the other side of the room, “could you look over this choreography with me? Something doesn’t seem right.”

“Aiba,” Ohno touched the other man’s back. “My mom made too much lunch for me today. Want to have some?”

“Aiba,” Ohno grabbed his hand and squeezed, meeting Aiba’s eyes with one of his rare, intense looks, as Aiba gasped for breath. He held Aiba’s inhaler in his other hand. “We need you.”

Nino leaned back in his chair and stretched. The nice thing about hosting radio shows, he reflected, was that nobody was looking at you and you could relax and stretch and scratch and do whatever you wanted while the music was playing.

A knock on the studio’s door startled him and Nino glanced up to see Sho smiling through the window. With a grin, Nino got up to let his friend in. “What are you doing here?”

Sho shrugged as he slipped into the room. “You sounded a little bit lonely during the last Bay Storm broadcast so I thought I’d drop by and say hello.”

Nino laughed. “We have rehearsal in the morning. A hello couldn’t have waited until tomorrow?”

Sho just grinned at him and hefted the plastic convenience store bag, filled with snacks. “Well, I needed somebody to eat with.”

Another knock came from the door. Raising an eyebrow, Nino opened the door again to reveal Aiba.

“NinoNinoNiiiiino,” Aiba singsonged, “I brought some Pocari Sweat. Hiya, Sho-chan!”

“Aiba, why--”

“Aiba, you’re blocking the way,” a laughing voice said. A gentle shove from behind had Aiba moving into the studio to stand, grinning, by Sho. MastuJun and Ohno now stood in the open doorway.

“We’ve got pasta salad and fruit and some custard for dessert,” Ohno announced as Nino gaped. “We thought we’d have a radio picnic!”

Sho poked Nino’s side. “Don’t just stand there, mister radio host. The song’s almost over. Let’s do our radio picnic and you can introduce the next song!” He handed Nino a disc.

The grin was evident in Nino’s voice as he announced to the world that his bandmates were all idiots.

Nino raised a haughty eyebrow. “You were fretting. Cut it out before I give you something to really worry about. Like what I’m going to do to Oh-chan during the next performance.”

I really love the way that your mind works. :))) This whole fic is so cute and really made me smile. Eee!

Glad you approve! :D My mind is sometimes a scary place.
Jun. 5th, 2008 09:51 pm (UTC)
I loved this!

Unfortunately, I don't have time to give a real response, but I really enjoyed reading this! (And especially the possessive Nino that managed to shoulder his way into about half of the ficlets... XD)

My favourites were 2 (because nothing says "I love my bandmates!" as much as being a bastard to them), 4 (this is SO MUCH MatsuJun, who definitely would do something like that for Aiba; and possibly for his own OCD as well), 7 ('cause we all love Aiba's brain so much) and 8(because the thought of Sho and Nino tag-teaming Jun with the threat of making Aiba and Ohno cry made me giggle more than it probably should have).

Any comment at all makes me happy! <3

For some reason, Nino kept ninja-ing his way into my brain today. I would start typing something and think, "Okay, Ohno would be good at this one" and then inevitably Nino would saunter along and take over. And of course, anything that Nino gets involved in has to have something to do with his Oh-chan.

Glad you liked it!

Get some sleeeeeep! (I can't really talk, I'm an insomniac, but still...) At least you've got happy songs to give you nice dreams!

Thanks for reading!
Jun. 5th, 2008 10:24 pm (UTC)
-giggling insanely here- 2 and 8 were my favorites XDDD OH god XD
Jun. 5th, 2008 11:25 pm (UTC)
Nino always shows his love. It's purely coincidence that the others take it as threats.
Jun. 5th, 2008 10:32 pm (UTC)
Uwa~! Arashi rabu! <3 These are all so good. [1] reminds me of MatsuJun's shukudai-kun massage XD [3] because it reminded me of a evil bull plotting the death of his rival hamster. XD Seriously little Chinen has no idea how much fire he's playing with. ^^ and [7] because Aiba has a very fascinating mind.
Jun. 5th, 2008 11:27 pm (UTC)
Things will get really interesting when Chinen's older and Nino gets him drunk just to take incriminating blackmail photographs.

Glad to hear it!! :D
Jun. 6th, 2008 12:30 am (UTC)
You are awesome. This fic is awesome.

He let out another, smaller, sigh as Ohno's other hand joined in the massage.

Gently he lifted one of Jun's legs and began massaging the calf with one hand, chasing out the tension of the morning's dance practice.

Maybe I'm weird, but I thought this part was really, really hot. Two slow massages at once? YES.

"... Cut it out before I give you something to really worry about. Like what I'm going to do to Oh-chan during the next performance."

"Oh god," Sho said involuntarily, eyes wide. "Please don't get us fired."

That's a good transition -- get Sho from thinking about the pain to thinking of molestation. Nice, Nino!

"Go, Sho-chan, go!" Aiba crowed as the music started. "It's in English! Do it!"

I immediately thought of the Shukudai-kun episode with Shibata Rie, where all the boys shout "DO IT!" at each other. XD

... he confessed, unable to keep secrets from Jun's warm expression.

This is how I love imagining Jun around Ohno; patient and warm and a little more open. I think #6 was my favorite.

The very thought of Aiba and Ohno, eyes swimming with tears and demanding to know why Jun didn't love them anymore, weren't they still his friends, what did they do wrong, how could they make it up to him, won't you come back to us, Jun-chan, pleeeeeeeease, made Jun recoil.

I adored this section; like that's what makes Jun hesitate, before Sho and Nino's threats.

"Aiba," Ohno grabbed his hand and squeezed, meeting Aiba's eyes with one of his rare, intense looks, as Aiba gasped for breath. He held Aiba's inhaler in his other hand. "We need you."

That's simple, but incredibly sweet.

And #10 is great, because they all had the same thought without telling each other. Arashi = love.

Maybe I'm weird, but I thought this part was really, really hot.

Now that you mention it... *_*

I immediately thought of the Shukudai-kun episode with Shibata Rie

Yay! That was what I was thinking of when I wrote it. It's the little things that make me happy.

This is how I love imagining Jun around Ohno; patient and warm and a little more open. I think #6 was my favorite.

I think #6 was my favorite to write. Whenever I think of Jun and Ohno, I picture them curled up on a couch together, just cuddles and love. I'm so glad you liked it!

like that's what makes Jun hesitate, before Sho and Nino's threats.

You know it's true! Jun is powerless against them! Sho and Nino he can get even with but the puppy eyes? Nu-uh!

Ahh, this is so cute! :D You write Arashi brilliantly!

I'm a spam you till you hate me! ^____^... but I loved every section of it.. I couldn't pick a favourite but Jun and Oh-chan together is one of the sweetest things in life. (I AM and OhMiya girl through and through) BUT ...

Jun and Ohno ... are well ... ahahaha words fail me!

But you have captured who they are together very well. Jun is pernickety and detailed and he cannot help that but Ohno does what he does best. For all of them he is my favourite. (can you tell?) *hearts and love*
Jun. 6th, 2008 02:36 am (UTC)
A....and Nino! Loving his Oh-chan and Chinnen..heee! Nino = evil wins all the time be it DS/Juniors/Jun/Sho or Ohno (although the dynamics there aren't always so obvious I think ^_~)

I think perhaps the only one Nino hasn't a chance with is Aiba. Because Aiba-sparkly-rainbow kind of love is hard to resist.

But Nino being surprised is how even though he tries everything on them the love is there. Arashi (in my eyes anyways) love is amazing, no other band I know comes even remotely close for member-ai as they are.

No one can resist the Aiba-sparkly-rainbow kind of love!

I agree, Arashi are the original member-ai band.
